The GGIB cycling team began its season campaign at the Phillip Island A & B Grade open race, held on the grand prix circuit.
Excerpt from article in Shepparton News below:
Two placings handed Shepparton’s A-grade cycling team a great start to the road season at Saturday’s Phillip Island Grand Prix.

Warhorse: Shepparton’s Leigh Egan on his way to 15th placing in the Phillip Island Grand Prix.
Wangaratta’s Ashley Baines was involved in the race-winning second break and ultimately came sixth behind two-time Giro D’Italia competitor Tom Leaper, of Croydon Cycling Club.
Steele von Hoff and David Pell completed the podium behind Leaper, with Baines’ Shepparton team member Leigh Egan — who won the race two years ago — finishing strongly for 15th.Shepparton Olympian Steve Fairless joined Baines and others in the initial breakaway after 10 of the 25 laps of the 4.44 km circuit before the chasing pack brought them back. Baines was the only Shepparton team member to go when a group of riders broke away soon after. ‘‘We had a plan to put (Baines) into the break because we knew the break would go,’’ Egan said.
‘‘It generally finishes in a bunch sprint, so, if it was going to come back, I was ready to do my thing, but we rode a good tempo.‘‘The VIS had missed the break, so they were trying to bring it back and we were trying to bring it back ourselves because I had more chance of winning (in a sprint finish) than Ashley.’’Egan said it was a great result for the Shepparton team.‘‘You’re looking at 240 starters, so we’re more than happy to have two guys in the top 20,’’ he said.‘‘We’re only in the first couple of races of the year, so we’re going all right."‘Steve led me out there (for the finish), but I didn’t sprint as well as I would have liked, either, but only early days.‘‘Trent Stevenson was in everything, too.’’
Egan also praised new team member Ben Goodall, who has changed his immediate sporting focus from triathlons to cycling.‘‘Everyone rode really well. Ben Goodall was a little bit inexperienced, but he hung in there and finished,’’ Egan said.‘‘Ben’s racing again this weekend in Rutherglen in it’s the open handicap race up there. ‘‘We’ll all be going— it’s a good (110 km) race.’’Shepparton’s other two teams endured mixed results.Egan said Mark Thompson, Tony Michel and Nathan Glynn ‘‘rode well’’, while Garry Leed recovered from a fall to complete the race.

SHEPPARTON HALF IRONMAN DECEMBER DECEMBER 14TH
We are pleased to report the team's first outing since beginning this year has been an absolute resounding success!
Anne & Miah BOTH won their respective age groups, with Annie setting an amazing personal best time of 4:43:41. Seriously
quick this mother of 3 is!!!
Mark set an amazing scene for his first race recording a time of just over 4hr and 12 mins. Most athletes are happy if they ever get
under the 4hr and 30 min mark, Mark has done this well and truly in his first race!!! His run certainly did help things along despite
losing the plot in the final few kms...
Ben also set a personal best time of 4hrs and 13 mins and was unlucky not to hold Mark off, leading for the team across
the entirety of the race until the final run lap.
Onward and upward to Busselton it is for Miah and Ben. Team friend Marcus Cook is also travelling to Busso to race.
